Origins, transformations and leading part of the Centre
History of Pneumatics Systems and Equipment Research and Development Centre OBREiUP Ltd. begins in 1968, when Central Technical Office for Machine Elements “ELMA” was founded in Kielce. Company’s first years of business included activities in field of elements for general purpose machines and stepless transmissions, also leading tasks concerning basic air force pneumatic elements and control systems were introduced.
In 1972 CBT EM “ELMA” was transformed into local division of Warsaw’s Centre for Research and Development of Technology And Machine Construction Basics “TEKOMA” with headquarters in Kielce with primer task to expand development of young polish pneumatics. Finally the direction of company activities was given on July 1st 1975 when local Kielce’s division TEKOMA separated into independent Pneumatics Systems and Equipment Research and Development Centre. Main task of OBR Centre was introduced in MPM’s regulation as “complex scientific research, development and test activities leading to preparation of new solution of elements and sets for pneumatic systems, constant improvement of their manufacture methods and taking part in execution of mentioned results in national enterprise” and remains actual now.
In the 70s the unit was charged with a task to adapt and execute license bought by Poland for pneumatic products of French company CPOAC. Main task of the Centre was to build polish pneumatics. Keeping in mind future production in this time Pneumatics Production Centre PREMA in Kielce was created. Soon after, next to PREMA the Centre build it’s own scientific-executive and production facilities.
Based on the experience in field of elements and industrial devices design, technical crew of the Centre quickly gained specialized knowledge and experience in pneumatics division. Many still active scientifically based contacts were started and cooperation with national universities began.
Scientific and technical cooperation
Centre, since the beginning of its activities, led multilateral cooperation with national universities.
More than 30 years of cooperation with the technical university in Kielce (currently University of Technology in Kielce) involved problem-solving and exchange of experience in the field of pneumatic components laboratory testing. For several years the Centre carried out student internships and initiated work subjects. At the research level Centre also works with specialists from the Technical University of Warsaw, Cracow’s AGH, University of Koszalin, and Rzeszow. Moreover, the Centre participates in the implementation of targeted tasks conducted by the Technical University of Wroclaw, including the use of compressed air energy in foundry.
Already in the 70s laboratory was created in the Centre equipped with stations allowing to conduct tests in accordance with the requirements of international ISO standards. Executive database of the Implementation Department is also systematically modernized. The constant development of technology and global achievements in pneumatics oblige the staff to continually broaden their knowledge and skills in the energy efficiency of compressed air both as a tool to support industrial processes, as well as to improve operations in other areas of life.
In cooperation with national universities for many years Centre organizes regular scientific-technical conferences, with a common name "PNEUMA".
Every year we also participate in symposia and conferences as well as trade fairs and exhibitions.
General Technical Activities
From the first years of operation OBREiUP carries out general technical activities including scientific and technical information dissemination in the field of pneumatics and wide promotion of scientific achievements, with a focus on practical use of compressed air energy and the use of pneumatic components and systems for the mechanization and automation of industrial equipment.
At the time of creation Centre was authorized to conduct the whole of the national standardization work in the field of pneumatic drive and control.
After the amendment of normalization Act since 1 January 2003 (Journal of Law of 2002 No. 169, pos.1386) secretariat of Technical Committee No. 208 on Drives and pneumatic controls was established in OBREiUP, which the company runs to the present day, actively participating in national and international work, in connection with the activities of the international standardization organization committees ISO TC 131 and TC 118 and also CEN European committee.
Transformation of the unit
In 2008 as a result of conducted by the Minister of Economy commercialization process of R&D institutions, The unit was transformed into a limited liability company under the name Pneumatics Systems and Equipment Research and Development Centre Ltd. with the acquisition of the Centre property by formed company and maintaining the subject and scope of business.
